* requirements for external investigations of death or use of force.

The Bureau of Justice Statistics has released a 2016 dataset on law enforcement through the National Archive of Criminal Justice Data (NACJD). The Law Enforcement Management and Administrative Statistics (LEMAS) survey collects information on personnel, policies, and practices from more than 3,000 state, county, and local law enforcement agencies. Its data include


* job functions of sworn and civilian employees
* demographic characteristics of officers
* weapons and armor
* agency policies.
