Knocking out Section 2 of the Voting Rights Act is going to reconstitute state legislatures, city councils, judicial districts, and every other type of political boundary in which racial minorities will be cut off from having a voice in their government. Louisiana, Alabama, and other states guilty of racial gerrymandering in the past have already pushed to restart the practice in the courts in the wake of this case.
This decision will silence untold numbers of voters and spiral our fight for voting rights back sixty years. RUSH $35 or more right now to help fight for the values the VRA stood for and defend our fundamental right to vote >> [[link removed]]

MJ: Supreme Court Deals a Death Blow to the Voting Rights Act [[link removed]]
John: The Supreme Court’s six-to-three conservative majority issued a staggering ruling yesterday that essentially kills the remaining protections of the Voting Rights Act , dealing a death blow to the country’s most important civil rights law.
The majority opinion by Justice Samuel Alito in Louisiana v. Callais strikes down the congressional map in Louisiana and in doing so " narrows Section 2 of the VRA to the point of irrelevance, making it nearly impossible to prove that a gerrymandered map violates the right of voters of color ."
The impact shows how partisan this all is. This decision harms only one political party to the direct benefit of the other and return parts of the country to a suppressive era we thought we left behind sixty years ago.
What can we do to respond? It sounds simple, but just get back to work informing voters, reengaging lapsed voters, registering new ones, and turning out everyone we can for the midterms and beyond.
John: We need everyone's help, now more than ever. Step up with $35 or whatever you can today and help us defend the right to vote >> [[link removed]]

Justice Elena Kagan forcefully dissented. “ I dissent because the Court’s decision will set back the foundational right Congress granted of racial equality in electoral opportunity, ” she wrote.
University of Florida political scientist Michael McDonald also pointed out, “ my quick read of Callais decision is that the majority says if a racial community votes consistently with a party, then it is okay to deny them representation because that’s just partisan gerrymandering .”
The consequences are simple to understand and grave for voter participation. The more vengeful partisans make voter participation feel worthless, the less people actually take part. Needless to say, the less people who participate, the less our democracy and our government looks like the people it's supposed to represent.
It was clear long before the MAGA movement that Chief Justice Roberts has seen the removal of the VRA as one of his top goals for his time on the Court. After decades of different cases, yesterday he seemed to finally succeed.
We simply refuse to let our democracy go backwards like this. Will you chip in with $35 or more to stand with us against these partisan efforts to silence voters? >> [[link removed]]

Integrity First Voter Action Project is dedicated to expanding ballot access and increasing voter participation across the country.
Since the Supreme Court gutted key provisions in the Voting Rights Act, extreme politicians have taken advantage to pass harsh laws that restrict access to the ballot box. These restrictions particularly affect disadvantaged communities and people of color. It’s our goal to bring awareness to these laws wherever they may crop up and organize voters to take action to ensure the right to vote is available to everyone in their states and communities.
