Less training, less oversight, and fewer first responders. That is the Austin City Council’s vision for “reimagined public safety.”

They called our concerns "fear-mongering" to deflect from their real intentions. But they actually did it, and it’s worse than we imagined.

Members of the Austin City Council JUST UNANIMOUSLY PASSED nearly $150 million in CUTS from the Austin Police Department. Here’s what they’re targeting:
* Training for new cadets in the police force.
* The APD Forensics Unit.
* 911/Dispatch.
* The Special Investigations Unit created to investigate police misconduct.

Who will take on these responsibilities you might ask? Well, the Austin City Council doesn’t know that quite yet, but wants you to trust them to figure it out.

They’ve even used $128.8 million for a “Decouple Fund” and a “Reimagine Safety Fund.” If that’s not dystopian enough for you, the civilian crossing guards drafted as riot control in the fund’s initial proposal might be.

They even carved out funding for abortion with the diverted public safety funds.

This is not a manifesto authored by a cabal of radical anarchists and violent criminals, this is law set forth by elected officials that directly threatens the lives of our constituents.

This proposal is not only an assault on first responders— this is a threat to every family in Central Texas.

Ask yourself this. The next time your family calls 911, will they be collateral damage from these budget cuts?

That’s not “fear-mongering,” it is what’s at stake.

We must take action. Join with us and DEMAND that not ONE CENT of taxpayer dollars are used for private security for council members while chaos reigns in our communities. ([link removed])
