Can you imagine a world where there is no _“I”_ — and only
_“we”_? 

No individuality. No independent thought. Just the collective.

In Ayn Rand’s dystopian novella Anthem, she depicts a society that
enforces absolute collectivism. The word _“I”_ has been erased
from human language, and people don’t even have personal names, only
assigned numbers, assigned jobs, assigned mating partners. Children
are raised not by families, but in collective barracks. And the one
most gifted individual to survive this “education”? He is
relegated to sweeping the streets.

IT MAY SOUND EXTREME, BUT THE STARK HORROR OF A CIVILIZATION DESTROYED
BY ENVY REMAINS AS RELEVANT AND ARRESTING TODAY AS IT DID NEARLY NINE
DECADES AGO.

Today, young people are increasingly taught that the group matters
more than the individual, that success must be punished, and that
independent thinking is dangerous or even immoral.

It makes me shudder to even think about where this train of thought
_(or lack thereof)_ leads.
