Vaping multiplies risk of COVID-19 in teens and young adults ([link removed])

Teens and young adults who vape are at significantly higher risk of being diagnosed with COVID-19, according to new research published in the Journal of Adolescent Health. These findings make it clear that the Food and Drug Administration must require tobacco companies to submit studies in the U.S. evaluating the impact of their products, marketing, and labeling on youth.

Over 60% of public schools are within 1,000 feet of tobacco retailers, new study finds ([link removed])

A new comprehensive study from Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids shows that over 60% of public schools in 30 cities across the country are within 1,000 feet – about two city blocks – of a tobacco retailer. These findings expose the health disparities that exist within our communities and how Big Tobacco continues to target our youth.

Leading health groups urge FDA not to allow sale of any flavored products as e-cigarette makers face a critical September 9 deadline ([link removed])

On Monday, six leading public health and medical organizations – including Truth Initiative – urged the FDA not to authorize the sale of any flavored product given the overwhelming evidence that flavored products appeal to kids and the lack of evidence such products help smokers quit.

California – The Assembly Health Committee approved a bill to ban the sale of most flavored tobacco products. The bill now moves to the Assembly Appropriations Committee for consideration.

Georgia – Gov. Kemp signed into law a bill that raises the age to purchase tobacco products to 21 and imposes a tax of 7% on e-cigarette products.

Missouri – Gov. Parson signed into law a bill to ban vaping in public schools and school buses. While existing laws prohibit the use of tobacco products inside schools, the new law will specifically target the increased use of vapor products.
