In response to the coronavirus pandemic, many states have made it mandatory to wear a face mask in public. And, while wearing a mask might be a minor inconvenience for most people, it can cause anxiety, fear, discomfort and frustration in a child with autism spectrum disorder.

The main thing to do for anger – as well as anxiety, depression and many of the other emotional difficulties children might be having right now – is to validate your child’s emotions. Let them know you understand what they’re feeling. You might not fully sympathize, but you can empathize.
