Dear John,

I’m writing because of your generous donation through OutRight Action International to support the activists and organizations working in Russia to help victims of the LGBTIQ purge in Chechnya. We at OutRight are proud to be a partner of the important film “Welcome to Chechnya” that bears witness to these stories, and to work with the Moscow Community Center, Russian LGBT Network, and other leading advocates who are pushing for change in the region and around the world. Thank you for watching the film and for your support!

I also write to invite you to a virtual panel discussion about the film we are co-hosting on Tuesday, July 21st with the United Kingdom Mission to the United Nations. I will be speaking on the panel, along with representatives from the UK Mission and:
* David France, the Director of “Welcome to Chechnya”
* Maxim Lapunov, featured in the film and the first gay man to speak publicly about his experience
* Victor Madrigal-Borloz, the UN Independent Expert on Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity
* Veronika Lapina, an activist from Russian LGBT Network

Please join us on July 21 from 10:00-11:00 am EDT for what promises to be a very special and important conversation about the unacceptable mistreatment and torture of LGBTIQ people in Chechnya and what more the international community can do to combat violence and discrimination against LGBTIQ people around the world. RSVP by 12 noon EDT on Monday, July 20. ([link removed])

In addition, I am happy to share that until August 4, “Welcome to Chechnya” is available to stream for free in the U.S. on HBO, at hbo.com/welcometochechnya. The film is also available for streaming for audiences in Canada (Crave) and the UK (BBC). Please feel free to share the link for screening and the invitation to our panel with others who may be interested in learning more about the film and these issues.

Finally, I invite you to stay involved with OutRight. This year marks our 30th anniversary fighting for LGBTIQ human rights around the world, wherever LGBTIQ people face extreme violence, discrimination, and persecution. For 30 years, OutRight has been supporting the global grassroots LGBTIQ movement, conducting important and groundbreaking research about issues facing our community, and holding governments accountable at the United Nations and beyond. Here are a few ways you can learn more and stay engaged with our work:
* Read about our research ([link removed]) on the impact of COVID-19 on LGBTIQ people globally and our COVID-19 Global LGBTIQ Emergency Fund ([link removed]) .
* Watch or listen to episodes of OutRight TV ([link removed]) , featuring voices of LGBTIQ people and allies from around the world.
* Follow @OutRightIntl on Facebook ([link removed]) , Twitter ([link removed]) , Instagram ([link removed]) , YouTube ([link removed]) or LinkedIn ([link removed]) for up-to-date news about our work and progress or setbacks around the world.
* Check out some of our recent media coverage ([link removed]) and op-eds in BBC Radio, NBC News, The Advocate, and other news outlets.
* Consider joining our monthly giving program or asking your employer to match your donation to increase the impact of your support ([link removed]) .

It's because of donors like you that we can help our partners in Russia and continue our work for LGBTIQ human rights across the globe. Thank you for caring enough to get involved and please let us know if you have any questions or suggestions for me or my colleagues.

In solidarity,
Maria Sjödin
Deputy Executive Director
