Last June, Prime Minister Trudeau announced that Canada would ban certain
single-use plastics as early as 2021. But with less than six months left in the
year, this government is running out of time to keep its promise.
Urgent action is needed now!
Not long ago, you signed our petition asking Canada to take meaningful action to
address the plastic pollution crisis. Your voice, along with the thousands of
other concerned individuals, pushed the federal government to take plastic
pollution seriously. Now we need your help to make sure the government follows through with its
commitment before it’s too late.
Canadians throw away three million tonnes of plastic each year. Without strong regulations in place, it’s only going to get worse.
Right now, Canada needs to:
* Add plastics to Schedule 1 of the Canadian Environmental Protection Act, 1999
* Release a list of single-use plastic items that your government intends to
ban in 2021
* Establish minimum collection, recycling, and recycled content targets for
single-use plastic items not covered by the ban

Minister Wilkinson to spring into action.
