Tell Your Senator to Protect Animals and Workers
Thanks to your help, the Safe Line Speeds in COVID-19 Act was introduced in the House of Representatives a few weeks ago. This week, a companion bill was also introduced in the Senate, giving us two chances to pass this important legislation.

Aside from slowing slaughter speeds, the Senate bill also directs the Government Accountability Office to conduct a review of the how well the USDA protected animals and workers during COVID-19. That review has the potential to facilitate lasting systemic change in the meat industry.

Contact your senator ([link removed][UNIQID]) and urge them to co-sponsor the Safe Line Speeds in COVID-19 Act.

Farm fact

97% of calves born on dairy farms are taken away from their mothers within the first 24 hours of their lives so their mother's milk can be used for human consumption.

Ban Dietary Racism
Animal Outlook is partnering with Switch4Good to tell the USDA and HHS to remove dairy as a recommended food group in the upcoming 2020-2025 Dietary Guidelines. ([link removed][UNIQID])

Dairy compromises one’s health and disproportionately affects people of color. Approximately 36% of Americans are lactose intolerant, and between 70-95% of Black, Asian, Native American, Hispanic, and Ashkenazi Jewish people are lactose intolerant. It's unethical to inform the American people that dairy is healthy when over one-third of them cannot digest it.

The USDA and HHS is accepting public comments on the upcoming guidelines through August 13, 2020. You can make a difference by submitting your comments here. ([link removed][UNIQID])

Fun fact
Cows form strong maternal bonds and are attentive, protective, and loving parents. Mother cows at sanctuaries are even known to adopt orphaned calves.
