Friend --

We’re in the home stretch to elect our two endorsed candidates, Rashida Tlaib and Abraham Aiyash. We need these incredible leaders in politics, but that can only happen if we show up and out for them both.

At 5:30PM is the last canvass for them both. Meet at 10034 Joseph Campau Ave Hamtramck. <[link removed]>

At 6 PM you can phonebank for Abraham. <[link removed]>

Vote for Rashida (District 13) and Abe (District 4) tomorrow!

Don’t know where to vote? Representative Tlaib put together a helpful Vote Safely page <[link removed]> to direct voters where to head tomorrow.

Please consider volunteering for Election Day Polling with Rashida & Abe. There are shift times available all day. Register at the links below:

The second to last Liberation Monday is today at 7 PM at 2431 Ferry Park St <[link removed]>. If you haven’t had a chance to attend, don’t miss this one! These teach-ins are transformative—you’ll walk away recharged and ready to take action against corrupt and oppressive systems.

If you can’t make it in person, we always live stream the event. <[link removed]>

DSA has endorsed the campaign to Demand Safe Schools <[link removed]> launched by allies in the United Teachers of Los Angeles <[link removed]> (UTLA), the Chicago Teachers Union <[link removed]> (CTU), among an ever growing list of other teachers unions and community organizations.

The push to reopen schools by both major parties is an act of political violence. We demand NO reopening until our schools are safe for students and all staff.

At 7:30 PM today, join theMI CORE <[link removed]>Town Hall: Fighting DeVos's Corporate Agenda <[link removed]> via FB Live to learn more about HB 5910 ’20 <[link removed](S(hzsh1tju3ip2blndji0amvmh))/mileg.aspx?page=BillStatus&objectname=2020-HB-5910> and hear local educators speak about their experience of resisting the outsourcing of our public school services to virtual learning.

There will be actions all this week leading up to the Safe School Return Rally <[link removed]> on the State Capitol lawn on Thursday at 9AM.

Put this up as your profile pic if you believe in a safe reopening plan for the fall:

Are you frustrated by police brutality and the forces that target black and brown folk? Are you ready to stand up against oppressive forces? Help us organize en masse and make the City of Detroit and DPD feel the pressure of our demands loud and clear.

<[link removed]>HELP DEFUND THE POLICE <[link removed]>

Anew ‘duty to intervene’ policy <[link removed]>was introduced at this past Thursday’s Board of Police Commissioners (BOPC) meeting that would require Detroit police officers to intervene when they witness misconduct by other officers. Of course, the Minneapolis Police Department had this same policy in place and it didn’t save George Floyd’s life

At this point, we all know that police culture will always overrule policy. Have you ever seen a cop actually perform this ‘duty to intervene’? The Board continues to pretend that reforms are enough to reign in an out of control police force that has been on a murdering spree over the last month.

The Board has spoken very little about the fact that DPD has now shot four people this month <[link removed]> and killed three of them. For some context, DPD had killed 9 people since 2015 <[link removed]> before July. Detroit Police Chief James Craig blamed the uptick on suspects "emboldened" by "anti-police rhetoric." <[link removed]>

The BOPC must address the fact that the Detroit Police Department is entering our neighborhoods to execute Detroit citizens. We need to continue showing up to their meetings and demanding that they do their part to defund, disarm, and demilitarize the Detroit Police Department in order to rebuild our neighborhoods.
