SFUSD Schools Closed Today Due to Educators Strike:
Resources for Parents
Dear Neighbors,
As of writing, the San Francisco Unified School District (SFUSD) and the United Educators of San Francisco (UESF) do not have an agreement and educators have begun to strike.
Here is a list of resources to assist families affected by the strike:
*
SFUSD has provided information and resources<[link removed]> for families outlining: learning continuity, food distribution, and other public options for extended day care.
*
The City and its community partners will provide free breakfast and lunch for all youth ages 18 for children reliant on SFUSD for their meals. For more information, please consult the Department of Children, Youth, and Families’ website here<[link removed]>.
*
The Department of Early Childhood (DEC) is offering temporary child care for families with children under 5 who are affected by the SFUSD teacher strike. For more information, check this website<[link removed]>.
*
Public Libraries will be open for their regular hours listed here<[link removed]>. Children are welcome to visit, though children under the age of 8 must be accompanied by a responsible adult.
*
The City’s Department of Recreation & Parks afterschool programs have been extended to full-day programs for children who are currently enrolled in their programs. Families should have already received information on this extension from Rec & Park directly.
*
Additional Resources: The SF Parents Coalition is a well-established advocacy group representing thousands of families from schools across SFUSD. The Coalition has crowdsourced a list of resources for SFUSD families affected by the strike. For more information, check SF Parent’s Coalition’s website here<[link removed]>.
I urge both SFUSD and UESF to return to the bargaining table to come up with a solution that prioritizes students and their families.
Sincerely,
