In Minnesota—where federal agents are detaining immigrants and killing protesters—pregnant immigrants are skipping critical prenatal care out of fear. PRH Fellow Dr. Chelsea Thibodeau, a Minneapolis-based family physician, spoke to the 19th about rising pregnancy complications and the devastating health consequences for patients who don't feel safe accessing the care they need.
“We are seeing significant no-show rates for prenatal care visits in our clinics. We’ve heard from patients in my clinic where they don’t feel safe coming in.”

Before the anti-abortion members of the Senate HELP Committee held its sham hearing on medication abortion, PRH President Dr. Jamila Perritt teamed up with Destiny Lopez (Guttmacher Institute) and Kirsten Moore (EMAA Project) to co-author this piece in Ms. Magazine exposing exactly what to expect: shoddy science, discredited claims, and political theater designed to justify abortion bans.
“Limiting access to mifepristone is a way to restrict abortion overall, and the Senate hearing will amplify that strategy.”

New rules proposed by the Trump administration would weaponize Medicare and Medicaid funding to curtail gender-affirming for young people, even in states where this lifesaving health care is legal. PRH President & CEO Dr. Jamila Perritt spoke to The Hill to make clear this is clearly “an effort to strongarm hospitals into participating in the administration’s anti-LGBTQ agenda” with devastating consequences.

PRESS RELEASE
SCOTUS Hears Cases on Trans Inclusion in Sports

The Supreme Court heard two cases that could have major consequences for transgender youth across the country. At the center are laws that ban transgender girls from participating in school sports—laws that single out and harm young people simply for being who they are.

PRH President and CEO Dr. Jamila Perritt explains why these bans are not about fairness or safety, but about control, stigma, and the erosion of basic rights. Sports are about belonging, health, and joy—and that when any group’s humanity is denied, everyone’s freedoms are at risk. She calls on SCOTUS to not uphold this harmful cycle of transgender violence and instead prioritizes the humanity and needs of queer and trans youth.

Read her full statement on why solidarity with trans youth is not optional—it’s essential.

PRESS RELEASE
PRH Files Amicus Brief to Maryland Supreme Court

PRH, along with Doing Right By Birth and several Maryland doctors, are urging the Maryland Supreme Court to protect parents who turn to Safe Haven laws in moments of crisis. In a new amicus brief, these medical experts warn that punishing parents who seek safety and support could have devastating health consequences—especially amid our nation’s ongoing maternal health crisis.

Dr. Carolyn Sufrin, an ob/gyn and Fellow with PRH, emphasized the importance of compassion and access to care: “No parent should be punished for seeking help to keep themselves and their child safe.”
Our physician network is united in demanding policies that support—not criminalize—families during the vulnerable postpartum period.

Working closely with New Mexico advocates, PRH organized a sign-on letter opposing a harmful state directive that mandates separating newborns from parents who used substances during pregnancy. The letter was published in the Santa Fe New Mexican and underscores the importance of patient-provider trust, not punishment and surveillance, when caring for pregnant people who use substances.
