PRH, along with Doing Right By Birth and several Maryland doctors, are urging the Maryland Supreme Court to protect parents who turn to Safe Haven laws in moments of crisis. In a new amicus brief, these medical experts warn that punishing parents who seek safety and support could have devastating health consequences—especially amid our nation’s ongoing maternal health crisis.
Dr. Carolyn Sufrin, an ob/gyn and Fellow with PRH, emphasized the importance of compassion and access to care: “No parent should be punished for seeking help to keep themselves and their child safe.” Our physician network is united in demanding policies that support—not criminalize—families during the vulnerable postpartum period. |
