Where you at, Hallmark?

Today is a very special day. You probably felt it when you woke up. The crisp scent of democracy in the air, that twinkle in your letter carrier’s eye. Pour a glass of lemonade and throw a few postage stamps on the grill: July 28 is National Vote By Mail Day, and we hope you all celebrate accordingly.

Why do we need a new holiday? First of all, summer holidays leave something to be desired. (We’re looking at you, “National Cousins Day.”) But mostly because in 2020, voting by mail is the safest, easiest way to make sure your voice is heard on November 3rd.

But the election is in November, so why are we freaking out now? Well, the unholy combo of COVID-19 and voter suppression efforts means it is more important than ever for everyone to request their vote-by-mail (VBM) ballot as early as possible. ([link removed])

If you’ve been reading the news lately, you know that states are going to be struggling to keep up with the increase in vote-by-mail we’re expecting to see this year (picture I Love Lucy in the chocolate factory). To make sure they have plenty of time to process your request and get you your ballot in time (and so you have plenty of time to get it in the mail before Election Day), we think you should get cracking.

Different states have different rules for voting by mail, because lord knows this election wasn’t complicated enough, but we have a very excellent new tool to help you navigate them. Don’t have a printer at home to deal with the paperwork? The good news is most states will let you request your ballot online. Some don’t, but we’ve got you covered -- if your state requires a “wet signature” (we hate it too but that’s what they call it), our tool has an option that will send you a printed copy of your request in the mail, so all you have to do is sign it, mail it in, and roll around in all the money you’ve saved on ink cartridges.
