Last Tuesday, Jan 20, a virtual call was held between SHARK investigators and Kentucky State Police (KSP) Commissioner Phillip Burnett Jr., and Secretary of Justice and Public Health Keith Jackson on the topic of illegal cockfighting. The call was necessary because of the KSP's poor performance in responding to our calls when we locate active fights.

Just a few days earlier on Saturday, Jan 17, a SHARK drone was perched above a cockfight pit called Charlie’s in Martin County, Kentucky. We called the KSP, but it failed to bust the event. Charlie’s has conducted its criminal operation for years, and SHARK has reported it to the KSP on numerous occasions, yet the KSP just can’t bring itself to bust the animal abusing criminals at Charlie’s pit.

Unfortunately, Charlie's Pit is not the only illegal pit they allow to continue for years on end. We also continue to report and watch the “Honest Abe” pit in McCreary County and the “Shaker Hill” pit in Butler County. SHARK has provided ample evidence, including damning undercover footage from inside the pits, but the state police either ignore the documentation or claim they need warrants without ever attempting to get one.

We stated in no uncertain terms that our determination to end cockfighting has not wavered, and we will continue to hunt down these criminals. Hopefully, the KSP and Kentucky government generally will see that we are serious and will take necessary action to shut down these criminals.
