Dear John,
One year ago today, the LA fires tore through our communities, destroying thousands of homes and structures, and claiming dozens of lives.
Incarcerated firefighters from across California were sent to help contain the deadly blazes, risking their lives to protect homes and neighborhoods.
During the fires, many of you learned about the stories of incarcerated firefighters and how little they earned for their bravery.
That’s why we launched our Firefighter Fund. To provide financial support to these brave men and women as they return home, helping them to rebuild their lives and continue their careers in firefighting.

Now, one year later, thanks to your support, our fire fund has helped over 40 formerly incarcerated firefighters with reentry support, covering transportation, housing, computers, clothes, daily living expenses, equipment, and more to continue their firefighting careers!

We’ve also upgraded fire camps with new beds, couches, and refrigerators, and provided new boots for more than 150 incarcerated hand crews.

In the year since, Governor Newsom signed legislation into law that raised pay for incarcerated hand crews by 700 percent to the federal minimum wage!

We are deeply grateful to everyone who donated and took the time to learn about the role incarcerated firefighters play in protecting communities across California and why they deserve second chances and real opportunities to continue their careers when they come home.
Please donate to help us create more second-chance opportunities for the incarcerated men and women protecting our communities.
