John, Republican Gov. Greg Abbott left Houston without a representative in Congress for nearly a year — not because there wasn't anyone ready to serve, but because he wanted to silence this solid-Democratic district.

Then Abbott and Trump gerrymandered Texas districts to water down the voting power of residents.

But this is Amanda Edwards’ home. She will not be silenced. And neither will we.

That's why today, we're launching Houston Women Win, a project with EMILYs List and Amanda Edwards dedicating to supporting our fight to restore representation for TX-18 and all our crucial work. Can you chip in any amount to support EMILYs List and Amanda Edwards today?

When Houston families needed help navigating immigration paperwork, federal services, disaster recovery, or urgent healthcare appeals, they had no congressional office to call. The consequences were real: seniors couldn't get medications, small businesses couldn't access federal programs, and families in crisis had nowhere to turn.

We've heard heartbreaking stories from constituents who reached out during emergencies and had no one on the other end of the line — because Greg Abbott made a political decision that ignored the needs of real people.

Amanda is running to change that.

Amanda has lived what so many Texas families experience: rising costs, financial fear, and the knowledge that one emergency could destroy everything. When her father battled cancer, her family lived with constant uncertainty over whether they would be able to afford treatment — and whether insurance would come through.

No family should face ruin because someone they love needs care.

When Hurricane Harvey hit, Amanda didn't wait for press conferences or committees. She went neighborhood by neighborhood — literally knocking on doors — to make sure seniors, disabled neighbors, and families had food, medication, and emergency resources. She coordinated deliveries, checked in relentlessly, and refused to leave anyone behind.

That is what real service looks like.

If we want a government that works for everyday people, we need representatives who understand that public office is not about performance — it's about responsibility.

This runoff election will determine whether Houston has a champion in Congress who listens, shows up, and delivers.

Please make a contribution to help EMILYs List and Amanda Edwards, and restore Houston's voice in Congress:

Houston has gone without representation long enough. This runoff is our chance to change that — and we are proud to stand with a leader who has already shown up for this community when it mattered most.

Thank you,
the EMILYs List Digital team
