Dear Colleague,
The latest issue ([link removed]) of the Clearinghouse’s quarterly research digest provides abstracts of articles from the peer-reviewed literature on male circumcision, with a focus on voluntary medical male circumcision (VMMC) for HIV prevention. This issue covers articles published from 1 April to 30 June 2020.
Links are provided to the full text of articles that are open access. For additional information on VMMC, search the Clearinghouse’s Resource Library ([link removed]) .
Featured Articles
* A systematic review and meta‐analysis ([link removed]) found strong, consistent evidence over 32 years that VMMC reduces the risk of HIV infection among heterosexual men.
* A pilot referral system ([link removed]) demonstrated the feasibility of linking young VMMC clients to sexual and reproductive health services at youth centres.
* In a randomised trial ([link removed]) , VMMC clients and providers found post-operative two-way texting a highly acceptable alternative to in-person reviews.
Other articles featured in the digest address the effects of VMMC and other HIV services on cervical cancer incidence and mortality; the use of the Unicirc and ShangRing devices to perform adolescent male circumcision; an investigation of a rare but serious complication of adolescent male circumcision; men’s perceptions, understanding, and experiences of VMMC in KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa; and the relationship between masculine norms and healthcare-seeking behaviour among men in a VMMC programme in the Dominican Republic.
Best regards,
Clearinghouse Webmaster
