A look back on the year 2025.

2025 is almost in the books and we wanted to take this December newsletter to highlight some of the larger accomplishments and news from this past year.

North Star Promise Benefitted Over 53,000 Minnesotans During 2024-25 School Year

“The success of North Star Promise is truly remarkable,” Office of Higher Education (OHE) Commissioner Dennis Olson said. “By investing in our students and eliminating the financial barrier of tuition, we are making college possible for more Minnesotans. This preliminary report shows that in the first year of implementation, we exceeded projections for how many people would benefit from the program. I believe North Star Promise is playing a key role in the positive enrollment trends happening across the state and look forward to seeing more students benefit during the 2025-26 school year.”

80 Minnesota Businesses Awarded with Funds to Support Employee Training

The Minnesota Office of Higher Education announced the 2025 recipients of the Dual Training Grant. In total, $5,044,000 was awarded to 80 Minnesota businesses. The funds will allow companies in high-demand industries to fund dual training programs for 902 employees.

Additional Grant Highlights:

* Over $2 million in grants to advance college attendance [ [link removed] ]
* $550,000 to support inclusive higher education in Minnesota [ [link removed] ]
* $2.9 Million awarded to advance spinal cord injury and traumatic brain injury research [ [link removed] ]

Over 245 High Schools are Participating in Direct Admissions

Over 37,000 students will be eligible to receive proactive admissions from Minnesota colleges thanks to over 245 high schools from across the state participating in the OHE’s Direct Admissions Minnesota Program. This represents an increase of over 60 schools from the 2024-25 school year.

New Look, Same Mission. OHE Website and Publications get Refreshed

*New Website [ [link removed] ] - *This new site comes with many upgrades in an effort to provide students, educators and professionals easy to find and up-to-date information. A few of the highlights of this new site include mobile responsiveness, robust search functionality and user-friendly design. "*Along with the new website comes a new URL. Redirects are ending at the end of the year, making now the best time to update any favorites and bookmarks.*"

*New Publications [ [link removed] ]* - Available in both digital and physical formats, this years publications bring a re-imagining of the structure, content, and design, three publications were turned into two for better streamlining of information for students and families.

Helping Spread the OHE Message

Our outreach team has been busy from January to December working to connect with communities, and educate the public on all that OHE has to offer. 

Highlights include:

* Over 35 events were attended including large-scale public events, high school events, counselor events and trainings, and more
* Roughly 24,000 copies of our guides "Paying for College" and "Choosing a Career Pathways " [ [link removed] ]have been ordered from all corners of the state  
* The newly rebranded: "College Planning Series [ [link removed] ]" hosted over 300 live attendees at each of the six sessions, with hundreds viewing the sessions after the fact
* This years FAFSA Tracker [ [link removed] ] features a newly revamped process that aims to simplify access for high school counselors and maintain data security

When Getting Admitted To College is No Longer a Question

The question of “will I get in” has been giving high school seniors sleepless nights for as long as there has been an application process. In Minnesota though, we are working to help seniors and their families at participating high schools sleep easier knowing that through the Direct Admissions Minnesota program the answer to whether they will get into a college is “YES!”
