Weekend Reading
Hi Friend,
Thank you to everyone who joined our Stronger With Immigrants Week of Action! From California to Minnesota to West Virginia, communities organized vigils, actions, and other public events. We came together to stand in solidarity with immigrants and demand dignity for all people.
As we gather with loved ones this holiday season, we know that everyone deserves to live in peace and safety. Yet the Trump administration’s escalation of detention and deportation continues to tear apart families and communities. We are grateful to all of you who are working to build a world where all people can live freely and thrive. See the actions in photos and stories. [link removed]
STRONGER WITH IMMIGRANTS
“We have the right to be here.” [link removed]
In 1995, Don Luis fled to the U.S. to escape civil war in El Salvador. He has lived in New Jersey for 30 years with Temporary Protected Status. TPS protects hundreds of thousands of immigrants from deportation who have escaped war, natural disasters, or other crises. But the Trump administration is working to dismantle this vital program. Today, with support from AFSC, Don Luis is advocating alongside other TPS holders to defend their right to stay in the U.S. where they belong. Here, he shares his story. [link removed]
TAKE ACTION
Tell Congress: Create a pathway to citizenship for all [link removed]
Millions of immigrants have lived in the U.S. for years—working, raising families, and contributing to our communities. Yet they live in limbo, vulnerable to changing policies. That includes efforts to revoke TPS protections for hundreds of thousands of immigrants from Haiti, Venezuela, Afghanistan, Myanmar, and other countries. Congress has the power to create a permanent solution. Join us in urging them to protect our communities and support a pathway to citizenship for all immigrants. Send a message now! [link removed]
FROM THE ARCHIVES
AFSC’s history of working for food justice [link removed]
In the aftermath of World War I, Quakers and a newly formed AFSC provided food for children facing starvation across Europe. Since then, we have worked with communities worldwide to make a world where no one goes hungry a reality. This commitment is as strong as ever today. Learn more about the history of our work for food justice. [link removed]
