Dear Wilderness Defender,
I’m writing to you between meetings in Washington, D.C., where I'm spending the week with coalition members advocating for the permanent protection of the Boundary Waters.
Right now the threats are real, and they are escalating. The federal administration is laser-focused on opening up the watershed of the Boundary Waters to copper mining. Rep. Stauber’s latest bill would fast-track copper mining leases, putting sulfide-ore copper mines — the most toxic industry in America — directly upstream of the Boundary Waters. But we won’t let that happen.
We know 100% of copper mines pollute. Every accident is permanent. And the Boundary Waters is the wrong place for this type of toxic mining.
That is why we’re here this week, meeting with legislative offices from both sides of the aisle. We're sharing the overwhelming science and economic data. We're reminding them that this isn't abstract policy — it's about 1,100 of the cleanest boreal lakes in the world. It's about the last place in America where you can drink directly from the source. It's about protecting a refuge that belongs to all of us.
Will you make a gift today to power this advocacy work while we’re meeting with legislative offices?

This kind of advocacy matters. It’s how we secured the 20-year mining ban and it’s how we will secure permanent protections. But we can only be here because of supporters like you.
The foreign mining giant behind this has spent over $1 million lobbying Congress to secure mining leases. We can't match those deep pockets, but we have something more powerful: a grassroots movement of people like you refusing to let the Boundary Waters be sacrificed for short-term profit.
Your support right now, while we are literally walking the halls of Congress, sends a powerful message. It shows legislators that this movement is strong, organized, and not going away. Every meeting we take, every coalition member who joins us, and every message we deliver is backed by supporters who believe that the Boundary Waters is worth fighting for.
This mining lobby is pushing hard. We need you with us right now. Will you make a gift today to stop this bill and protect the Boundary Waters permanently?

Thank you for being part of this fight. I'll report back soon with what we accomplished together.

P.S. We know how to win this fight, but only if we have the resources to match the mining lobby’s pressure. Will you renew your commitment today? >>[[link removed]]
