John, have you been wondering why states matter?
------------------------------------------------------------
We get that question a lot. If you're here, you probably don't need much convincing, but your friends and family might. There are 3 simple reasons why taking back our democracy starts at the state level:
1. Gerrymandering. State legislatures draw the district lines in 37 states, so these races are critical to securing fairly drawn districts and fighting voter suppression.
2. Leadership & policy pipeline. State policy becomes national policy, and state leaders become national leaders. Over half of U.S. presidents (including Barack Obama!) started out as state legislators.
3. Bang for your buck. State level campaigns are often small and under-nourished; just a few hours or a few dollars has an outsized impact.

** But YOU can make a difference!
------------------------------------------------------------
The Democrats are behind the curve when it comes to state legislatures. But the good news is, the grassroots CAN make a difference. Small dollar donations, a few hours spent phonebanking and canvassing—all of that goes a long way towards helping restore fairness to our democracy ([link removed][UNIQID]) .
Now, let's get out there—it's up to us to take our democracy back.
