Dear Friend,
You know that rapid global population growth is a monumental problem. It affects us all … and our chances of a sustainable future on a livable planet. And yet, by changing just one life at a time, we can stabilize global population. Together, we can turn the tide on some of our environment’s most pressing challenges, such as climate change, deforestation, biodiversity loss, water scarcity … the list goes on.
Our Global Partners initiative recognizes that small, simple steps can tackle enormous issues. Each person who makes more sustainable decisions in life can have ripple effects across their families, communities, and our planet.
Girls who attend school are more likely to delay marriage and child-bearing. While we might take universal primary school for granted in the U.S., girls don’t share the same opportunities worldwide. Seemingly small solutions such as removing barriers to girls’ education and improving access to family planning options have an outsized impact on people’s lives and our world.
That’s one reason why we have been so fortunate to partner with organizations focused on girls’ education, including Nasaruni Academy for Maasai Girls , which provides schooling for disadvantaged girls in rural Narok, Kenya.
Your donation to our $300,000 Global Partners matching gift campaign will ensure that organizations like Nasaruni Academy continue to receive support for their endeavors. [[link removed]] [[link removed]]
DOUBLE Your Impact [[link removed]] A classroom at the Nasaruni Academy for Maasai Girls. Photo c/o Nasaruni Academy
Poverty often prevents Maasai families from educating all their children. Daughters can be given away for a “bride price,” so many Maasai families apply their limited resources towards educating their sons, who are culturally responsible for supporting their parents in old age. Girls thus have little hope for a future beyond the confines of child marriage and early child-bearing.
The Nasaruni Academy stepped in to fill this void, beginning with just 13 Maasai girls gathering outdoors beneath a tree for instruction. By their third year in operation, Nasaruni had 50 enrolled students outgrowing their three temporary classrooms. Last year, they marked a significant milestone—graduating their very first Nasaruni Academy high school class! Some of the girls in this class of 30 have studied at Nasaruni for more than a decade, and their ability to stay in school was made possible through scholarships funded by generous donors.
The Nasaruni Academy for Maasai Girls is one of 19 Global Partners you can help support. Your $25.00 gift will help provide a transformative level of funding to this program, building on our mission of fostering a more equitable and sustainable future.
