Friend,

Our next chapter-wide branch meetings are set for Saturday, September 14th,3:30 - 5:30 p.m. This is our first assembly as a chapter since our national convention in Atlanta, so we’ll take some time to learn about the national priorities that were decided on there with our chapter’s delegates and discuss how to implement them together.

Join us to learn more about how we can build a stronger socialist movement in Los Angeles! RSVP for the Central <[link removed]>, Valley <[link removed]>, and Westside <[link removed]> branch meetings today.

And if you’re new to DSA-LA, would like to meet a few new comrades, and want to plug into our work, sign up for a New Member Meet & Greet, for the half hour before the branch meetings start. RSVP for the Central <[link removed]>, Valley <[link removed]>, and Westside. <[link removed]>

If you’re the guardian of a little one, you can also RSVP for Child Watch <[link removed]> if you’d like to engage in the meeting a bit more independently. We have volunteers, toys and activities, and a whole little setup at all three of our branch meetings so the child that you’re caring for will have fun, companionship, and supervision while you’re perhaps more free to participate in the meeting. And alternatively: kids are more than welcome to join their guardians in our meetings! Have them sit with you if it’s best, DSA is kid-friendly. :)

And if you’d like to get involved in our Child Watch project, or you’re a returning volunteer and want to help at any of the branch meetings above, Click here! <[link removed]>

SAVE THE DATE: LOCAL CONVENTION, OCTOBER 19th

Speaking of conventions! Our own local convention representing DSA across Los Angeles County will take place on October 19th at Immanuel Presbyterian Church in Koreatown. Be sure to mark your calendars so you can join literallyhundreds of socialist Angelenos as we decide on our chapter’s priorities for the upcoming year. For more information, check out our convention webpage <[link removed]>, and stay tuned for more information on proposed resolutions, trainings on Robert’s Rules, and other parliamentary fun.

Please note! It’ll also be essential for 20 percent of our membership to join us at convention so that we meet quorum! So if you are brand new to DSA-LA, or you've been in the organization since before its big membership boom, RSVP for Convention!  <[link removed]>

If you need to pay National Dues so that you can vote at DSA-LA's convention, then join today at THIS LINK <[link removed]> and RSVP for Convention!  <[link removed]>

And if our national dues are too steep for you right now, we understand, so in response we've created our special Comrades for Comrades <[link removed]> program, which sponsors new comrades’ dues. If you’re having difficulty paying dues at this moment: check out Comrades for Comrades! And then, we implore you, RSVP for Convention! <[link removed]>

STATE SENATOR PORTANTINO: VOTE YES ON #AB1482 THIS WEEK

This week, State Sen. Anthony Portantino, who is the Chair of the State Senate Appropriations committee, will decide whether or not to support the Tenant Protection Act of 2019, AB 1482.We need your help to get this bill out of his committee in order to pass!

This bill will protect millions of Californians from homelessness by prohibiting rent-gouging and unjust evictions. The bill limits allowable rent increases to under 10% per year for multi-family buildings more than 15 years old and single family homes owned by large corporations. It would require landlords to provide a just reason for eviction. If this bill doesn’t pass, corporate landlords like Blackstone will continue to force California tenants out of their homes with gigantic rent increases. If the bill does pass, millions of California renters could be protected from dangerous rent gouging and unjust evictions.

Please call Sen. Portantino at (626) 577-9944 and let him know where you stand.

You can also connect with him on twitter <[link removed]>, Facebook <[link removed]>, and Instagram <[link removed]>.

BACK TO SCHOOL w/ DSA-LA

School's back in session for comrades of all ages as we’re proud to announce the return of our socialist evening study series, A Class on Class! This fall we’ll be covering imperialism and the many ways it manifests internationally and domestically. A full reader and details on how to register the study series will be coming this week, so keep an eye out for more info in your inbox.

We’ll also be hosting some great speakers coming to LA this September. First up:

- September 14th: Help kick off our Class on Class with leftist historian and activist Max Elbaum, who will be joining us to discuss his new book,Revolution in the Air, which covers 1960s radicalism and the anti-imperialist projects of the New Communist Movement. This talk will take place immediately before our next Central branch meeting, so come early to join in on the dialogue. You can see more information and RSVP on our calendar, <[link removed]> as well as find sample readings from the book here <[link removed]> and here <[link removed]>.

We hope to see you back in class this fall!
