When I flipped a Republican-held congressional seat back in 2018, I broke the mold in more ways than one.

I became Kansas’s only elected Democrat in Washington. I also became the first LGBTQ+ Native American woman ever elected to Congress. And did I mention I’m a former MMA fighter, who was raised by a single Army mom, and worked multiple jobs to pay my own way through school?

With all that said, it’s fair to say I came to Washington with a resume that looks… just a little bit different from most of my colleagues.

It’s how I passed a bipartisan infrastructure law that’s kick-started construction on vital projects all across Kansas. And it’s how I’ve pushed back against every act of partisan warfare the Trump Administration has launched against Kansas families.
