When I flipped a Republican-held congressional seat back in 2018, I broke the mold in more ways than one. I became Kansas’s only elected Democrat in Washington. I also became the first LGBTQ+ Native American woman ever elected to Congress. And did I mention I’m a former MMA fighter, who was raised by a single Army mom, and worked multiple jobs to pay my own way through school? With all that said, it’s fair to say I came to Washington with a resume that looks… just a little bit different from most of my colleagues.
I also want to be clear about this: I’m not asking for your support — or anyone else’s — because of my background or the road I took to Washington. I’m asking for your support because of my record: What I’ve used my voice to fight for in Washington, and what I’ll keep fighting for if I have the privilege to continue serving. Since day one, my philosophy has been this: We need leaders who are grown-up enough to put people first. Not politics. That mindset helped me create thousands of clean-energy jobs right here in KS-03. It’s how I passed a bipartisan infrastructure law that’s kick-started construction on vital projects all across Kansas. And it’s how I’ve pushed back against every act of partisan warfare the Trump Administration has launched against Kansas families.
