Email from Rep. Malliotakis Dear Neighbor, In case you missed it: last week, I spoke on the House floor in support of Congresswoman Maria Salazar’s (FL-27) resolution H.Con.Res.58. This resolution denounces socialism and opposes the implementation of socialist policies in the United States. The resolution passed with bipartisan support (285-98-2), but 98 House Democrats refused to join us in denouncing socialism. Socialism is merely Communism-light, and as someone whose mother fled Communist Cuba in 1959, I understand firsthand how socialist policies erode prosperity and freedom, robbing hopes and dreams. Unfortunately, here in the United States, we’re seeing similar radical left policies take root in our own city with the election of a self-declared socialist who has embraced the communist ideas of Karl Marx including seizing the means of production, government takeover of supermarkets, and abolishing private property ownership. If we are to preserve the American Dream for future generations, we must push back against these dangerous and destructive ideas, which are the very same policies millions of immigrants came to the United States to escape. I will always stand up for you and our shared values to ensure the United States of America never becomes a socialist nation. Read and watch more below. If they can meet in the middle, it will be a good thing for New Yorkers. “As our city’s only Republican representative in Washington, I’ll push back on Mamdani’s socialist agenda but will also fight any attempt to punish New York. I’ll work with both the president and mayor to deliver critical funding for public safety, housing, transportation, infrastructure and our hospitals.” READ MORE NEW YORK POST House resolution condemning socialism splits Democrats ahead of Zohran Mamdani’s Trump meeting New York Post Malliotakis noted that her mother had fled Cuba in 1959 to avoid “the very things that our new socialist mayor in New York City says he wants. A socialist who says he wants to seize the means of production; he wants to abolish private property rights; he wants government-run supermarkets. “But guess what, my friends? Those are policies straight out of the Communist playbook of Karl Marx,” she added. “So there is no difference between socialism and communism, and where these policies were tried, yes, they failed.” READ MORE NEWSMAX Dozens of House Dems Join GOP to Denounce Socialism Newsmax Rep. Nicole Malliotakis, R-N.Y., argued during debate on the resolution that socialism and communism share the same foundations. She referenced her mother’s departure from Cuba in 1959 and said that policies linked to socialism have led to restrictions on private property and government control of major economic sectors. She said these ideas come from the writings of Karl Marx. Malliotakis and other members also cited recent examples from Venezuela. They said the country’s socialist government produced economic collapse and worsening living standards.
