** Leaving on a jet plane

Later this week I will board a plane for Boston to attend this year’s meeting of AAR/SBL (the much shorter way to write “the American Academy of Religion and the Society of Biblical Literature”). This annual event gathers thousands of religion scholars and Bible scholars from around the world. There are several reasons we attend, and one of them is to hear about the exciting work happening right now that might make for excellent articles in the Century. If you’re planning to attend, please let me know or stop by our table in the exhibit hall!

One scholar I’ll be connecting with at the conference is Boston resident and CC writer Mac Loftin. He is one of my favorite people to interview for our YouTube channel, and we have a brand new chat for you today about why those in power seek to control our grieving ([link removed]) .
