Today is International Students’ Day , a moment to honor the young people who fill our classrooms with hope, insight, and an honesty that often reveals what adults overlook.
Teachers Unify is grounded in the understanding that students know when something isn’t right, and teachers are often the first to see it with them.
Students carry the impact of gun violence in ways adults don’t always see, in their fears, their questions, and the quiet ways they learn to navigate a world that hasn’t protected them enough. Their voices remind us why this work matters, and why prevention and care must begin long before a crisis reaches the classroom.
Here are two reflections shared with us by students who grew up during this era of repeated school shootings. Their words speak to the urgency of creating safer, more supportive learning environments:

These are the realities students carry into the classroom. When students feel safe, they can learn; and when teachers are supported, that safety becomes possible.
That’s why we continue to expand resources like Project Lockdown [[link removed]] , which helps schools and families normalize secure storage, and our Crisis Intervention & Support Team, which provides educators with the care they need to support their students through difficult moments.
If you believe in this mission, we’d be grateful for your support. Every contribution helps us bring more tools, training, and care to the teachers and students who rely on us. [[link removed]]
