This wasn't the email I planned to send today.
I planned to share more about our efforts to empower cities to tackle gun violence (thank you to the 1,000+ CeaseFirePA activists who already emailed their senators about this!). But right now, I need your help to fight misinformation.
On Wednesday, Nov. 12, the PA House Judiciary is going to vote on HB 1891 , a bill that will help stop gun trafficking. This bipartisan legislation would make a small change — it’d require gun dealers to submit faster and more efficient electronic records rather than mail a physical record of each firearm sale to the state police, which can take several months.
To be clear, recording firearm sales and reporting them to state police is something gun dealers are already doing . But the paper-based system is slow, error-prone, and stops law enforcement from having the most up-to-date information when they’re trying to stop gun trafficking.
Based on what we saw last session, I can tell you that some gun extremists and their allies are going to start spreading misinformation about this very straightforward legislation . They’re going to lie and say that modernizing an existing process is creating a “gun registry.”
Friend, I need your help to fight this lie.
Will you use our tool to contact the PA House Judiciary Committee and tell them this misinformation can’t stand? [[link removed]]
Tell them advance HB 1891, which would slow the flow of trafficked guns into our communities. [[link removed]]

For decades now, whenever you buy a handgun, the dealer submits a record of sale to the State Police. Currently, more than half of gun dealers use an electronic system (because we’re in the 21st Century, after all). But there are still tens of thousands of paper records that can take months to enter manually. In the meantime, gun trafficking continues costing lives across the commonwealth.
Modernizing our system saves money, saves time, and saves lives. Tell the PA House Judiciary Committee not to fall for the lies. It’s time to modernize the system by passing HB 1891. [[link removed]]

P.S. The gun lobby is mobilizing fast to stop this bipartisan legislation. It’s crucial that gun extremists aren’t the only voices our legislators hear today. Please take 30 seconds to send a message to the members of the House Judiciary Committee telling them to advance HB 1891 to help stop the flow of trafficked guns into our communities.
