ACTION SPOTLIGHT
Protect Pollinators — and Our Food Supply
— from Toxic Neonic Pesticides
As we prepare for Thanksgiving, keep in
mind that our food supply depends on bees and other pollinators.
One out of every three bites of food is possible because of
pollinators, but they are dying at a staggering rate from toxic
pesticides called neonics. A decline in pollinators can result in
increased food costs, reduced access to healthy food, and
worsening food insecurity.
Despite overwhelming evidence that neonic pesticides are a main
culprit behind this alarming decline, the Environmental
Protection Agency (EPA) has failed to put science over industry
profits and has not imposed commonsense restrictions on their
use.
We just sued the EPA to rein in
widespread use of neonic pesticides, but we need your help.
Tell the EPA that you stand with NRDC
and the millions of Americans calling on them to defend our
pollinators, food supply, and health. ( [link removed] )

CAMPAIGN UPDATE
NRDC and Groups Work to Shut Down Dirty,
Expensive Eddystone Power Plant For Good
Remember Eddystone — the zombie power
plant that the Trump administration illegally forced to remain
open past its planned closing last May?
NRDC and other environmental groups filed two actions in late
September against the administration’s dirty energy plan: The
first challenging the initial extension of operations past May,
and the second challenging the administration’s order in August
extending the forced operation of the plant by another 90 days.
The administration is pushing for zombie power plants like
Eddystone to stay open because of a fake national “energy
emergency.” But not only is the U.S. not in an energy emergency —
we have plenty of energy to meet demand — the administration
won’t provide federal funding to keep the plant running.
So who’s paying the price? You
guessed it — consumers like us. Our legal actions are to protect
consumers from being unlawfully forced to pay excessive costs for
outdated and unnecessary energy generation — and we’ll keep
fighting for as long as it takes.

LITIGATION UPDATE
The Trump Administration Thinks Chemical
Plants Should Be Above the Law — We’re Suing
NRDC and partners sued the Trump
administration for illegally allowing 50 of the nation’s most
toxic chemical plants to skirt lifesaving clean air protections.
Applying to a total of over 200 chemical plants, these
protections would cut toxic emissions from the chemical industry
by more than 6,200 tons per year and reduce air toxics-related
cancer risks near these facilities by a whopping 96 percent.

DEEP DIVE
Why Is Your Electric Bill So High?
It’s not just inflation. And our own
personal habits and circumstances are only part of the story.
Worsening summer heat waves have led to more air conditioning use
and our increasing digital appetites have also put new strains on
our power supplies. But there are three larger, longer-term
explanations that keep us tethered to costly, climate-damaging
energy sources. Read more > ( [link removed] )
