Since Halloween’s right around the corner, I’ll tell you what’s really scaring me this year: the thought of House Republicans holding onto their majority next year.
Because if Donald Trump gets to spend the second half of his term with more unchecked power – with a House still run by Speaker Mike Johnson and his rubber-stamp majority – the consequences for our democracy will be terrifying.
We’ve already seen what happens when extremists call the shots: they gut health care and attack vaccines; defund public education and Head Start; and give Donald Trump unchecked power that threatens our democracy.
We can stop them, but only if we build the resources now to fight back and win next November.
