** Grimsby woman shares powerful message after overcoming smoking-related illness
Wendy Robinson who began smoking as a child is urging others to quit after discovering a cancerous growth on her lung during a medical scan. Having previously undergone surgery for kidney cancer, she successfully gave up smoking after more than three decades with the help of vaping and has since undergone further surgery to remove the lung growth. Her consultant praised her recovery and highlighted the major health benefits of quitting at any stage. Wendy’s experience features in the regional ‘Yes to Quit’ campaign, which aims to encourage people to stop smoking and access local support services that provide advice, nicotine replacement therapies, and vape starter kits.

** BAT delays US vape trial amid tightening FDA enforcement
British American Tobacco has halted plans to trial its unlicensed Vuse One disposable vape in the United States following intensified action by the Food and Drug Administration against unauthorised nicotine products. The move underscores the increasing tension between major tobacco firms and regulators. While Philip Morris International has indicated it will continue to comply fully with licensing rules, Altria intends to proceed with a test launch of its unapproved nicotine pouch brand. The FDA has recently increased inspections and issued warnings to firms selling products without approval, while also piloting a new, faster application process. Six campaign groups including the American Lung Association have written to the FDA to express concern that the streamlined system could weaken existing regulatory standards.

** Thailand moves to tighten vape laws
The Thai government has ordered an urgent review of its tobacco control legislation to address the sharp rise in e-cigarette use, which has increased from 78,252 people aged 15 and over in 2021, to over 400,000 in 2024. The Ministry of Public Health will lead the drafting of new rules to regulate production, import, sales, advertising, and online promotion of vaping products. The reforms aim to strengthen protections against industry influence and coordinate efforts across multiple ministries and law enforcement bodies. A detailed proposal outlining the legal and operational measures is expected to be submitted to the Cabinet within a month.
