BAT delays US vape trial amid tightening FDA enforcement
British American Tobacco has halted plans to trial its unlicensed Vuse One disposable vape in the United States following intensified action by the Food and Drug Administration against unauthorised nicotine products. The move underscores the increasing tension between major tobacco firms and regulators. While Philip Morris International has indicated it will continue to comply fully with licensing rules, Altria intends to proceed with a test launch of its unapproved nicotine pouch brand. The FDA has recently increased inspections and issued warnings to firms selling products without approval, while also piloting a new, faster application process. Six campaign groups including the American Lung Association have written to the FDA to express concern that the streamlined system could weaken existing regulatory standards.

The Ministry of Public Health will lead the drafting of new rules to regulate production, import, sales, advertising, and online promotion of vaping products. The reforms aim to strengthen protections against industry influence and coordinate efforts across multiple ministries and law enforcement bodies.
