NYC Antisemitism Crisis Intensifies in 2025
After recording a record 976 antisemitic incidents in 2024 — the highest count by ADL in any U.S. city ever —

New York is experiencing an alarming number of incidents in 2025, according to the ADL Center on Extremism. The brazenness and intensity of attacks across all five boroughs demand immediate action. Heading into last night’s final NYC Mayoral debate, ADL called on all candidates to provide a detailed plan on how they will keep Jewish New Yorkers safe.
Recent 2025 incidents reveal the severity:

Antisemitic vandalism on a park bench in Manhattan in September 2025.
- In February, a man claiming to be Hitler’s reincarnation threatened to kill Manhattan synagogue worshippers. That same month, three Orthodox Jews were assaulted in just two days.
- In June, a Jewish man was kicked unconscious by an assailant screaming about Gaza. An elderly man was punched while hanging hostage posters. Anti-Israel protesters in Times Square chanted “Burn Tel Aviv to the ground.”
- In September, antisemitic vandalism reading “Free Palestine, Jew” hit a park bench, subway car, and an NYU freshman's dorm room.
- Campus incidents continue at Columbia, NYU, and at Fordham, where a fence was spray-painted: “Kill Jews.”
This isn’t subsiding — it’s accelerating.

Helping Jewish Students Push Back Worldwide: “Students tell us they do not feel that their peers on campus are acting as allies to them as Jews,” says Dalia Grinfeld, ADL Associate Director of European Affairs. ADL’s

“Words to Action” program — which teaches students the history and current manifestations of antisemitism and provides practical tools to respond —is a big help. Some 4,500 students in 25 countries have participated in the one-day seminar since it was launched in 2022. “For many, this is the first time in their lives they experience what it is like to actually speak out and stand up for themselves as a Jew.” Grinfeld says.

A woman with Hebrew, Arabic and Latin on her shirt was thrown out of a Berlin café over the Hebrew writing on it. A worker hurled insults at her, calling her a genocide supporter. The irony is that the shirt is from a charity project to promote peace between Israelis and Palestinians. This incident was not only antisemitic, but fuels polarization.

The bodies of Aryeh Zalmanovich z"l and Tamir Adar z"l have finally been returned to Israel. Aryeh (85), one of the oldest hostages kidnapped on 10/7, was killed in captivity. Tamir (38) was murdered while defending his family and neighbors from terrorists during the massacre. Both Aryeh and Tamir were residents of Kibbutz Nir Oz. Our hearts are with their loved ones and the entire Nir Oz community at this time. May their memory be a blessing. The bodies of 13 slain hostages remain in Gaza. We cannot rest
