We're in danger of losing the last remaining North Atlantic
right whales.
With fewer than 400 left in existence, these magnificent
creatures are teetering on the brink of extinction. And now some
Republicans in Congress are trying to push them over the edge by
gutting the Marine Mammal Protection Act.

witness these majestic giants in the wild.

This is a calculated attack on our
environment by extremists in Congress.
Some Republicans are aiming directly at the laws that
protect our most vulnerable wildlife. They are fast-tracking a
bill that would eviscerate the Marine Mammal Protection Act — the
landmark law that has protected whales and other marine mammals
for over 50 years. Their changes would fatally delay protecting
North Atlantic right whales from fishing gear entanglements, a
huge threat to their survival, for another ten years.
It's an extreme, anti-science giveaway to corporate
interests — a deliberate strategy to make it illegal to protect
these majestic creatures. They won't survive this coordinated
attack.
And that makes the political work that the NRDC Action Fund
does all the more critical right now.
We urgently need your support to mobilize people across the
country to speak out in opposition to dangerous anti-environment
legislation, back our policy experts as they lobby lawmakers on
Capitol Hill, train volunteers to testify in support of the
environment at key public hearings, and mobilize voters to elect
environmental champions, starting with the critical state
elections in Virginia next month.
