PRESSURE THE DETROIT BOARD OF POLICE COMMISSIONERS TO END MASS SURVEILLANCE

As you may have read in last week’s email, Detroit’s Board of Police Commissioners will re-evaluate the use of facial recognition technology by the Detroit Police Department at their meeting tomorrow. We now have a unique opportunity to pressure them to ban it once and for all.

HERE’S WHAT TO DO

RIGHT NOW: Contact the Board of Police Commissioners before tomorrowdemanding that they ban facial recognition technology and end the dystopian, racist, unconstitutional surveillance program known as Project Green Light <[link removed]>. Send them a group message at [email protected] <mailto:[email protected]> and call: 313-596-1830. (Background information and talking points HERE <[link removed]>)

TOMORROW: Attend the next Board of Police Commissioners meeting at 3pm and apply further pressure by making a public comment. The Board intends to review a report on the Detroit Police Department’s use of facial recognition technology that led to the disgusting wrongful arrest of Robert Williams <[link removed]> due to a faulty match. He spent 30 hours in jail despite his innocence. Show up to demand this technology be banned immediately!

To attend the meeting online by Zoom click here. <[link removed]>Click the “raise hand” button upon entering to be put in line for public comment and be prepared to wait because these meetings can run for about 2 hours before getting to the public comment section.
