Sand Creek Massacre Exhibit to Open in DC
As part of the response of The United Methodist Church to the Sand Creek Massacre, the United Methodist Board of Church and Society and Commission on Religion and Race are hosting an exhibit that will be displayed at the United Methodist Building from Nov. 10 to Dec. 1. The massacre, on Nov. 29, 1864, caused the deaths of 230 Cheyenne and Arapaho people, most of them women, children and elders. Col. John Chivington, a Methodist minister, commanded the attack on the peaceful Native American encampment. Read the press release at [link removed] [link removed].
