To ensure education funding follows the child, rather than an inflexible and unreliable education system, parents should demand access to their child’s education funds, and support state and local policies that allow parents to use the funding earmarked for their child’s education.

Pennsylvania Governor Tom Wolf recently signed a bill that will remove barriers for skilled workers to find steady employment. This law is an important step toward occupations for many former convicts. Some prison programs have provided excellent opportunities for individuals to gain skills that they can use to find steady work after their release. But they are frequently blocked from that work due to occupational licensing laws, which do not allow for criminal records, even if the record is not at all related to the work that the individuals would be performing.
