Shane Jones and Fletcher Tabuteau announced today an investment to improve the rail connection <[link removed]> between Christchurch and the West Coast.

This project will create local jobs and enhance connectivity between the two South Island regions.

Only last week did we announce a new regional rail hub in Palmerston North <[link removed]> which will improve freight transport and create 300 jobs in the process.

As part of our post COVID-19 response we are stimulating economic activity in our regions by boosting employment and building infrastructure.

A $3 billion Infrastructure Fund was earmarked <[link removed]> for shovel-ready projects around the country, expected to create more than 20,000 jobs.

New Zealanders whose jobs were affected by the COVID-19 crisis will welcome these new opportunities. Our regions will also benefit with improved infrastructure.

This is New Zealand First in action, helping our regional economies rise up from the COVID-19 crisis and ensuring Kiwis find gainful employment.
