Shane Jones and Fletcher Tabuteau announced today an investment to improve the rail connection between Christchurch and the West Coast. This project will create local jobs and enhance connectivity between the two South Island regions. Only last week did we announce a new regional rail hub in Palmerston North which will improve freight transport and create 300 jobs in the process. As part of our post COVID-19 response we are stimulating economic activity in our regions by boosting employment and building infrastructure. A $3 billion Infrastructure Fund was earmarked for shovel-ready projects around the country, expected to create more than 20,000 jobs. New Zealanders whose jobs were affected by the COVID-19 crisis will welcome these new opportunities. Our regions will also benefit with improved infrastructure. This is New Zealand First in action, helping our regional economies rise up from the COVID-19 crisis and ensuring Kiwis find gainful employment.
