Hi John – Happy Indigenous Peoples’ Day! Today is a day to honor the strength, resilience, and rich history of all Indigenous people across the entire country.
As the former President and a proud member of Navajo Nation, I believe it’s crucial to reflect on the fact our state still doesn't officially recognize Indigenous Peoples' Day. Our state’s refusal to formally acknowledge this day is a painful reminder that the voices and experiences of Native peoples continue to be ignored and overlooked.
If elected, I would be the first-ever Native member of Congress from Arizona — but I need your help to get there. We’re building a warchest ahead of a tough campaign next year, and I’m so grateful for anything you can chip in. [link removed]

Indigenous Peoples’ Day was first reclaimed in 1992, pivoting the day from one that celebrated Christopher Columbus, to one that instead focused on the Indigenous people. This reclamation is a reminder of our resilience, our rich culture and history, and our ongoing presence in our nation. It would be my solemn honor to be our state’s first Native American to serve in Congress.
This Indigenous Peoples’ Day, I ask you to use this day as a catalyst for change – to educate, to advocate, and to take action for the health and future of the Navajo Nation and all Indigenous peoples.
Thank you for taking the time to honor and reflect on this important day,
Jonathan Nez
