Dear John,

As opponents of equality fight to erase and silence the stories of LGBTQIA+ Americans, NOW stands proudly in celebrating LGBTQIA+ History Month.

We cannot tell the full story of America’s march toward a more perfect union without acknowledging the LGBTQIA+ trailblazers who fought not only for their right to love whom they love and live as they truly are, but also to ensure that all people’s rights are respected.

That includes NOW’s very own co-founder, Pauli Murray. A Black queer feminist and civil rights lawyer, Pauli was a fierce challenger of both race and gender discrimination. Her legal writings were foundational throughout the Civil Rights Movement; Thurgood Marshall called one of her books “the Bible for civil rights lawyers". And when she joined in creating NOW, she was central to ensuring the organization maintained an intersectional lens in the fight for women’s rights.

This is the legacy and history we carry forward as we fight for the rights of lesbian, queer, and transgender women who are under increased attack today. We need your support to maintain this critical work, and I encourage you to make a gift of $20, $40, or more to NOW today in honor of LGBTQIA+ History Month.

Defending LGBTQIA+ rights is one of our organization’s core issues because fighting for women means all women. With your generosity, our grassroots advocacy efforts will have the resources needed to:
* Combat laws and policies targeting transgender, nonbinary, and intersex athletes
* Defend Title IX protections so that all students have equal access to educational opportunities, regardless of gender, including the rights of transgender and intersex students
* Stand up against hate crimes and speak out against the uptick in violent attacks on members of the LGBTQIA+ community
