John,

Since Donald Trump took back the White House and launched his cruel
mass-deportation agenda, at least 17 people have died in ICE custody,
including:

* Two detainees who were cruelly shot and killed by a gunman at a Dallas
ICE facility yesterday.
* Silverio Villegas González, a Mexican father who was shot and killed
by an ICE agent in a Chicago suburb. DHS lied and claimed the agent
was “seriously injured” by Silverio, but body cam footage reveals the
agent said his injuries were “nothing major.”
* Former DACA recipient Ismael Ayala-Uribe, who was protected by DACA in
2012 but was denied reapplication in 2016, died from a sudden illness
while detained, after a hospital visit and surgery were delayed.

As far as we know, this is the highest rate of deaths in ICE custody in
the first six months of any year on record.

Not only are people dying in detention centers and at the hands of ICE
agents, but hundreds have gone missing.

New reporting indicates that two-thirds of the 1,800 people held at the
so-called Alligator Alcatraz center in Florida are missing in ICE’s online
database and are unable to be located by their loved ones. They have truly
been disappeared.

Justice Democrats’ Rep. Delia Ramirez is leading the call for answers and
accountability, demanding an investigation into her constituent’s death
and the widespread reports of human rights violations by ICE in our
communities and their detention centers.

In Delia’s words, “Every death at the hands of ICE, every family separated
by ICE, every orphan created by ICE is Kristi Noem’s responsibility. She
must come to the committee and account for ICE's unlawfulness.”

Let’s raise our voices and demand not only answers, but justice.

In solidarity,

Justice Democrats
