And about 45 million acres of that is at risk because of the Trump administration's plan to repeal the Roadless Rule! You've probably heard us talk about the Roadless Rule. In fact, you might be sick of hearing about it! But the thing is, we're making all of this noise for a good reason. 

This policy protects nearly 60 million acres of national forest land across the country, including near you. Selling out the wildest parts of our national forests (the heart of our public lands!) will impact each of us across the country. It means giving up on beautifully serene places for us to spend time outside, safe places for wildlife to live and migrate, and clean water for our communities to drink.

Mike Dombeck was the Chief of the U.S. Forest Service in 2001 when the Roadless Rule was created. He has spoken about why they created the rule in the first place, and I think his words help underscore what is at risk:

In the 1980s, we lost about 1.4 million acres a year of open space, farmland, forest land, to development, from airports to shopping malls, you name it. By the 1990s, we were losing 3.2 million acres a year to development, and so the bottom line is we're losing this precious wild land, this backcountry land, to development.

We've got to protect what little we have.
