Dear Jack,

Over the last 56 years we’ve seen many successes – and the last few months have been no exception. These achievements are in large part due to the worldwide movement for Indigenous peoples’ rights that Survival, and you, are an integral part of, so we wanted to share them with you.

One of the key organizations promoting more responsible practices in the mining industry has now included the rights of uncontacted Indigenous peoples in their standard for responsible mining, while another, similar, organization has strengthened its policy on uncontacted peoples’ rights.

This comes after lobbying by Survival as part of our campaign for Indonesia’s Hongana Manyawa people – almost 25,000 of you have taken action to stop their forest from being taken over by mining companies extracting nickel.

A letter that Survival sent to India's Ministry of Tribal Affairs was forwarded to the local state authorities demanding they take all "necessary actions" to protect the rights of the Jenu Kuruba people to their ancestral lands. They were previously evicted to make way for a tiger reserve.

In June, state security forces began dismantling the shelters the Jenu Kuruba had erected after they reclaimed their ancestral land. The Ministry letter is a huge development, giving a massive boost to the Jenu Kuruba’s fight to stay in their forest home.

Since May, over 12,000 of you have lobbied India’s authorities to make sure the Jenu Kuruba are left in peace on their land. This is another testament to the strength of your campaigning.

In July, Brazil’s Guajajara Guardians completed a week of intensive training. The Guardians are a group of Indigenous people who defend the Arariboia Indigenous Territory, where the uncontacted Awá live. The training in the use of drones will help them better monitor and protect the forest – and their uncontacted neighbors – from illegal invaders.

Your actions and donations help Survival work alongside our Indigenous allies such as the Guajajara Guardians. Thank you for using your voice, and contributing to our campaigns.

Your actions in our movement make Survival strong, and without you, many of these victories would be impossible. Thank you for your dedication to this cause.

Thank you,
