Like many Pittsburghers, Kate Oczypok’s memory of her childhood is scattered with Steelers-related milestones. One that stands out: attending the 1995 AFC Championship Game at Three Rivers Stadium at age 10, craning to see the field as the home team won, 20-16 and locked in its first Super Bowl trip in 16 years ([link removed]) .
Thirty years later, Oczypok has viewed sports fandom as an expatriate, the spouse of a Buffalo Bills fan and as a piano teacher who wants more people to make room for the arts ([link removed]) in addition to sports.
She writes in an essay that even as she hopes more local kids get into music, football still pulses through her veins ([link removed]) .
“When the Bills come to town in November, I hope to be there with [my husband] Brad, even if only one of us is in black and gold,” she writes ([link removed]) .
