Dear John,

This year has been one of the most challenging times in our nation's history. Over the last eight months, the Trump administration has caused unrelenting chaos and confusion - charting an uncertain and terrifying course for the future of American democracy.

As disorienting as Trump’s second term has been, I haven't lost sight of what matters most. I’m still inspired by the hopes and aspirations of our community. I got into politics because I was inspired by the belief that our government can, and must, always strive to better serve its people.

When I first ran for Congress, I promised I would fight for our future, and I meant it. But last week, the Texas Legislature moved to take our future into their hands. They caved to Donald Trump’s mid-decade redistricting demands, effectively cutting five Democratic House seats out of Texas’ Congressional Delegation.

If the President of the United States can command Republican state legislatures to entirely disenfranchise their state’s democratic voters, our democracy runs the risk of becoming an authoritarian regime under a one party rule.

That’s why I was proud to see the California Legislature respond by supporting Governor Newsom’s Election Rigging Response Act. Because California must stand up to authoritarianism.

I still believe that the core of democracy is our ability to use the tools that we're given to strengthen the will of everyday people. In a moment like this, when Donald Trump is attempting to weaken the fabric of our democracy, it’s absolutely critical we use any tool we have to protect our democracy.

When a democratically elected leader prioritizes themself over the will of the people, we must chart a corrective course and explore modern solutions to our modern problems. That's part of the genius of America. That's what inspired me, and so many like me to serve.

I started the Golden State Democracy PAC so that California can continue to be a leader in the fight to protect, strengthen, and rebuild our democracy. That fight has never been more important than right now.

We must do everything in our power to stop Donald Trump, win back the House in 2026, and win back the White House in 2028. Only from there, can we rebuild a healthy American democratic project, and strive toward a more perfect union.
