When I first ran for Congress, I promised I would fight for our future, and I meant it. But last week, the Texas Legislature moved to take our future into their hands. They caved to Donald Trump’s mid-decade redistricting demands, effectively cutting five Democratic House seats out of Texas’ Congressional Delegation.
If the President of the United States can command Republican state legislatures to entirely disenfranchise their state’s democratic voters, our democracy runs the risk of becoming an authoritarian regime under a one party rule.
That’s why I was proud to see the California Legislature respond by supporting Governor Newsom’s Election Rigging Response Act. Because California must stand up to authoritarianism.
