The Trump admin. is moving to expand timber production on public lands while cutting resources to keep forests healthy.

Indigenous Peoples have known for millennia that fire is an essential tool for forest health, particularly in the western United States. Scientists, foresters and firefighters agree.

Low-intensity burns and forest management enable the growth of fire-adapted plants and older trees, reduce crowding in overly dense forests and the buildup of brush, promote biodiversity and contribute to resilient ecosystems.

We have the tools to better manage our forests, and fires, but there’s no time to waste to counter the Trump administration’s attacks. Wildfires would only get worse as the Trump administration plans on prioritizing timber production over wildfire resilience and slashing funding for our valuable public forests.

John, will you take part in EDF’s work protecting forests and all our work harnessing the power of nature to stabilize our climate? Your gift will make three times the impact thanks to the 200% match from two long-time EDF donors.

As climate change worsens, hotter and drier conditions make it easier for wildfires to start and turn into large, uncontrolled blazes.

I’ve watched a wildfire blaze five miles from my home in Montana. In moments like that, the difference between safety and tragedy comes down to seconds. Early detection makes the difference.

That’s why EDF recently helped launch a prototype of a satellite-based wildfire detection system called FireSat. Our goal is to provide better data for faster and more strategic responses to dangerous wildfires.

In addition to advanced firefighting technology, EDF works to cultivate healthy, thriving forests that are more resilient to wildfires, using tools like forest thinning and good fire where appropriate.

We’ve seen wildfire season growing longer, endangering people’s homes and livelihoods while threatening health as air quality reaches unhealthy levels. To protect lives, communities, and the places we love, we must build the capacity to prevent catastrophic wildfires.

Please donate today to help protect our forests and communities with three times the impact:
